The (LED) Future Starts Today

Presenter: Chris Buchanan, Director, Business Development for Samsung Electronics America

Abstract: The past 12 months have been a time of incredible upheaval in Hollywood and the Entertainment Industry — corporate acquisitions and mergers, major new original content players, global shifts in viewer consumption patterns, and an acceleration in the evolution of the moviegoing experience.  The emergence of LED Cinema Walls over the past few years represents a seismic shift in display technology for the theatre. This presentation will bring viewers up-to-date on the latest developments in this nascent industry with a focus on Samsung’s Onyx Cinema LED Screen and its place in the next generation of cinema.

Bio: Prior to his current role, Buchanan worked in Samsung’s Global Innovation Center and Media Solutions Center of America in strategy, partnerships and business development. Previously, Buchanan held management positions at Amazon, Mutant Enemy (20TH Century Fox), United Talent Agency, Jerry Weintraub Productions (Warner Bros.) and Sony Pictures Entertainment where he contributed to such pop culture touchstones as Swingers, Ocean’s Eleven, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly/Serenity. When not contemplating the future of entertainment and technology, he is likely to be coaching a competitive FIRST robotics team or hiking in the Sierras with the Boy Scouts.  Buchanan holds an A.B. in Economics from Harvard University.
