Cinema HDR will be a significant advancement. But getting there will take different thinking. Unlike the digital transition, cinema HDR will not lead with the conversion of all screens. In addition, the technology shift will invite new players to this market, introducing a dynamic that could drive a diverse footprint of HDR characteristics. To bring clarity to this advancement, the ASC seeks to evaluate and promote cinema HDR characteristics that work best for story-telling. Michael Karagosian, a veteran of the digital cinema transition and co-chair of the ASC’s Motion Imaging Technology Council Next Generation Cinema Display subcommittee, will speak about these issues and the ASC’s work.
